Six Weeks of Iranian Art

Six weeks of Iranian art will be held at the Headbones Galley from July 15, 2007 to august 27, 2007 and features a variety of Iranian artistic works as well as unique live performances, live music, and theatrical shows in different settings at every opening. We will represent many visual works such as photography, painting and sculpture showing various aspects of Iranian culture and heritage. 

As a visible growing minority in Canada with more than 120,000 Iranian-Canadian in this country, we are trying to:

  • Preserve and promulgate Iranian cultural and intellectual heritage in the Iranian as well as Canadian community
  • Provide an appropriate channel for communication and dialogue for the Iranian community.
  • Promote interaction amongst art members within the context of the Canadian art society.
  • Aid and represent Iranian artists in this multicultural society and help their voices be heard by a larger audience.
  • Actively work with other organizations to meet objectives.

Journey through my imagination (July 15 – July 25)

This one man show represents Pooyan Tabatabaei’s work; he is an emerging photographer with international recognition, mostly works on social issues with an artistic and unique vision. Opening will be held on July 15, 2007, from 6pm to 10 pm, we will have a visual art performance by Mr. Behzad Adineh called “Creation”. We will also be presenting a short documentary about the artist.

Mystic Iranian Curve (July 27 – August 03)

This solo show represents Mr. Mahmoud Meraji works. He’s an established painter with more than 30 years experience and international recognitions. His work is the result of blending lines and curves of eastern patterns into modernism, creating distinctive pieces.

The show will open on July 27, from 6pm to 10 pm. We will have live music and a short documentary about the artist.

Iranian artists’ cultural reunion (August 04 – August 15)

This art show is representative of a collaboration of seven artists, coming from various backgrounds, and diverse styles who are united by their heritage and culture as Iranians. The group consists of talents emerging from different generations of artists that have had the effects of various eras on their lives and work. Most of them are internationally recognized and have established distinction in their artwork.

Artists: Sadegh Tirafkan (Photographer) , Mehrad Meraji (painter), Shahmsi Shahrokhi (painter),  Behzad Adineh (mixed media), Mahmoud Meraji (painter),  Pooyan Tabatabaei (Photographer), and Ali Kamran (Graphic Designer)

The opening will be on August 04, from 6pm to 10 pm, we also have a short play reading by Lemaz group and a short documentary about each of the participating artists.

Clusters of Light (August 18 – August 27)

In this one man show we are pleased to present Mr. Mohesen Vaziri Moghadam, pioneer of Iranian modern art for the first time in Toronto. He’s currently residing in Rome (Italy). He will travel to Canada for the exhibition, and we will be hosting his work for 10 days at the Headbones gallery.
The opening will be on August 18, from 6pm to 10 pm, we will have a short documentary about Mr.Vaziri as well as live music.
