Médecins du Monde UK will be touring an exhibition of The 10th Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award around the UK in 2007.
This Photography Award was established as a tribute to four humanitarian workers who were murdered in the field: Flors Sirera, Luis Valtueña and Manuel Madrazo in Rwanda and Mercedes Navarro in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Luis Valtueña was a photographer by profession, which is why the Award bears his name.
Each year, this Award invites amateur and professional photographers around the world to capture the essence of humanitarian and solidarity values and actions in scenes that they have witnessed first-hand during the previous 12 months.
As well as 27 photographs in this exhibition, there will be an additional 16-photograph retrospective exhibition, showing winning images from the last decade during which the Award has been held every year.

Iranian-Armenian Director to be deported to Iran in new Year
Press Conference
Friday December 22, 2006
1pm @ mini park on King St. behind Roy Thomson Hall across the street from Royal Alexander Theatre (near St. Andrew Subway Station)
TORONTO —Levon Haftvan, an Iranian Armenian Christian will not be enjoying Christmas this year. He has been ordered to appear for deportation on January 11, 2007 to Iran, an Islamic fundamentalist country that has a poor record on human rights and democracy. Haftvan, a theatre director who’s most recent play Hello Out There was staged this month, will be fighting to stay in Canada his home for over ten years.
As an ethnic and religious minority, he fears persecution if he is returned to Iran which is headed by Islamic hardliner, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who has a proven track record of religious intolerance and attacks on freedom of expression.
“should Mr. Haftvan be forcibly returned to Iran he is at risk of detention, ill treatment and torture
due to the nature of the plays that he has directed in Canada and political opinion expressed therein. Should he be detained, Amnesty International would consider Mr. Haftvan a prisoner of conscience as he would be detained for the non-violent exercise of his right to freedom of expression.” Haftvan and his supporters will be holding a press conference in must specify location, the theatre district on Friday, December 22, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. to call on the government to stay his deportation.Sima Sahar Zerehi
